Soap Box Derby Race 2007

Since our inaugural Soap Box Derby Race in 2004,sponsored by the Marietta Kiwanis Club, more than 180 local kids have experienced the thrill of Soap Box Derby Racing and more than 1,200 spectators have turned out to cheer for their favorite drivers.  We've sent 10 kids to represent the State of Georgia in the All American Soap Box Derby World Championship Race in Akron, Ohio and have won two prestigous National Awards.

We need to continue the tradition of Soap Box Derby Racing and we need your finanical support.  The need for youth sports programs is validated by information that attributes long-term value to youth participants in sports.  The studies indicate a direct correlation between youth involvement in sports and a reduced potential of becoming involved in drugs, sex, crime and gang-related behaviors.  The fact is that all kids are not mentally or physically equipped to succeed in traditional sports like soccer, hockey, basketball, baseball, football or Lacrosse etc., but Soap Box Racing levels the playing field for all.  It provides a safe venue for kids, regardless of financial means, social status, race, color, religion, athletic ability and even those with physical or mental limitations, to participate in a fun competitive sporting event.

As we approach a new year, I hope you will consider making plans in your 2008 budget to support the local Soap Box Derby program here in Marietta.

You also still have time to make a tax-deductible contribution for 2007 if you like.
