WE WON!!!!

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in May, members and families of the Marietta Kiwanis and Rotary watched the annual softball game. Since the challenge was first imitated in the year 2000, the Marietta Kiwanis has only won the coveted silver cup twice - until today. A crowd of spectators watched the two club's play seven innings for bragging rights with the occasional club rival comments.

A Rotarian was heard saying that the score didn't matter because you only have to win by one - but for the Kiwanians they wanted to win by two in case there

Victory Park Thank You Letters

I want to thank first the members of the major emphasis committee, namely the Victory Park project, for the incredible effort and results you achieved. Secondly, I want to thank every Kiwanis member who participated in the project for their help.

Click here to download a "thank you" letter to use, for all the people we need to thank, for their contributions to the project.  I am requesting that you use the letter to thank everyone you made contact with, that made a contribution. The variable fields will allow you to personalize the letter to each recipient.

Please make sure you add your name after John Moeller's so that the donor has a reference point back to you, in addition to our club president.  Once you have added your information, please forward the letters to Pat Huey.  The letters will print on Kiwanis stationary and will be signed by John Moeller and mailed to your contributors.

Once again, thank you for all your hard work. It was a pleasure to serve with you.

Best regards,

Mike Hebdon
Major Emphasis Committee Chair

Retro Relay – Make Cancer History

Apr 28 - It’s that time of the year again to assist in the fight against that terrible disease, cancer, which has affected all Kiwanians in some way.  It is my honor to once again work with Carol Wisdom on this project.

This year’s theme is RETRO RELAY – MAKE CANCER HISTORY.  We will be wearing lime green tie dyed shirts with this logo on it representing the Marietta Kiwanis and the companies that have donated to the Relay.

How can you help?

  1. Come to the Relay and be a part of our team starting at 6pm on May 9 at Jim Miller Park
  2. Donate food and drinks for the team to use during the relay event.
  3. Donate money to our Relay team to fight this terrible disease.  Use the link below to donate online or let Pat Huey know how much to charge to your account.
  4. Buy a luminary at our May 8 meeting.  All purchased luminaries will be lit in front of our tent for the luminary ceremony which will be held at dark.
  5. Buy a raffle ticket for the wonderful gift basket donated by Gaye Johnson of Your Gifted Basket.
  6. Buy a gift basket for a family member, coworker, or client from Your Gifted Basket and 10% of the sales will go toward Relay for Life.

Kiwanis Golf Tournament

Dear Fellow Kiwanian:

Kiwanis Golf Tournament Needs Your Help!

Monday, May 05 is the date of our upcoming 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the beautiful Barnsley Gardens Resort in Adairsville, GA.

We currently have some great prizes for our auction and raffle that will help make it a fun day for everyone. Our prizes include sports memorabilia, Atlanta Braves Tickets, HD Flat Screen TV, a new car for a hole-in-one and a $5000.00 putting contest.

Our grand feature prize for our auction is a package valued at $7,500 for Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii. This will include a 5 night, deluxe ocean front cottage, 4 rounds of golf on the Arnold Palmer golf course, two spa treatments, and unlimited tennis.  We are also working on getting airline tickets for this package.

With the great prizes and fun day scheduled, we still desperately need your help.  We need players, sponsors and additional prize donations of all kinds including anything of value for raffle auction and door prizes.

We also need prizes for our goody bags. Any promotional items your company has to help promote your business will be put to good use. We need golf balls, pens, key chains, coupons – and/or anything you may come up with. If your company does not have these items, please think about asking your bank, insurance agent, financial advisor or any other of your professional or personal associates.

We also would like to invite all Kiwanis members who do not play in our event to come up to Barnsely Gardens and join our after golf festivities including dinner, auction, raffle and golf awards from 5:30-7:30pm. It will be a fun entertaining program for all with a great opportunity for meeting new people. For non-golfers, this event will be $20.00.  Contact Pat Huey at phuey@mindspring.com if you plan to attend and would like this added to your bill.

Please call Angela or Frank for assistance in collecting sponsorships or prizes. Our time is very near and critical for us to get everything we need and organized for our event. Please help!

Apr 21 - National Walking Challenge

It is time once again to lace up those tennis shoes and start walking!  This year’s walking challenge will be held April 21st – 27th.  Once again, the goal is for each participant to walk 70,000 steps in seven days.  Participants can purchase pedometers for $10, with the proceeds going towards local Adolescent Health Initiatives to help combat Childhood obesity.  Participants do not need to purchase a pedometer if they already have one – simply fill out and submit a registration form and complete a log sheet.

Last year The WellStar Institute for Better Health and WellStar Health Place placed second out of over 60 communities that participated in the challenge.  Their goal this year is to be the number one community with the most number of steps walked!  To participate, contact Christy Miller at 770-793-3708.
