Have you ever wondered where all those flags come from that fly around Marietta during holidays?

The Flag Project was conceived by Kiwanis Past President David Miller in 1997 as a way to raise funds for the Marietta Kiwanis Scholarship fund and other youth service projects.  The flags are displayed by Marietta Kiwanians and their friends and family who place the flags around Cobb County on six nationally recognized holidays each year.

The proceeds from this project now fund Kiwanis Scholarships and other Club programs, projects, and grants of the Marietta Kiwanis Foundation as directed by the Board of Directors.

Would you like to sponsor a flag or flags?  It's only $25 per year for each flag you sponsor, and the donation is tax deductible!!  Contact Pat Huey for more information or download the form below to sign up.

WHAT YOUR SUPPORT OF THE MARIETTA KIWANIS CLUB FLAG PROJECT HAS MEANT TO THE YOUTH OF MARIETTA AND COBB COUNTY:

Each year the Kiwanis Club of Marietta displays flags at your home or business during six (6) holidays a year:  Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th, Labor Day, September 11th, and Veterans Day.  The annual cost per flag is $25.

The Marietta Flag Project has now been in existence for over 15 years.  Over that time and through your support, the Kiwanis Club of Marietta has presented a total of 83 scholarships.  The total of these scholarships is an astounding $171,000.

The Kiwanis Club of Marietta is proud to say “Thank You” but even more, the Club would like you to hear from Mark Bloom, a past scholarship recipient:

I was a recipient of Marietta Kiwanis Club scholarships.  I cannot thank you enough for your faith in me and for your financial support.  I believe your club played a great part in my success both academically and athletically.  Were it not for your financial support, I would have had to work two jobs.  With your help I was able to only have a work study job and this helped me concentrate on my studies and gave me the time necessary to train for soccer.  It takes a tremendous amount of time to work and train at the highest possible level—I was working not only to graduate from Berry College with a high GPA, but I was also working to achieve my dream of becoming a professional athlete.   I graduated from Berry College in May of 2010 with a degree in kinesiology and a minor in physics.  While in my senior year in college, I got signed to play professional soccer for AC St. Louis.  I actually had to leave Berry College in February to report for preseason.  Because I had a high GPA and because I only had 9 credits left to graduate, Berry College worked with me while I was in St. Louis and I was able to finish my work and graduate on time…while playing Professional Soccer!

Very few young athletes get a chance to play professional sports.  For me it was a dream come true, and I am now entering my third year playing professional soccer, and now play for the Charlotte Eagles.  Obviously I cannot be a professional athlete forever, but I have a degree from Berry, which Marietta Kiwanis helped me achieve.

You have made a huge difference in my life and the lives of all the scholarship recipients.

With much gratitude,
Mark Bloom #3
